Norfolk Ladies team were in action again last Saturday, in their annual match against the Norfolk’s Seniors.
The teams of eight played fourball betterball over the firm and fast running Great Yarmouth and Caister course.
Ladies team captain Jo Herd & Amelie Marling were up first playing Jon Baker-odlin & Iain Reid. The Seniors took an early lead, but were made to work hard to keep it, and eventually held on to win 2-up.
In the second match, Will Beeson & Blair Ainslie played against Becs Shubrook & Sharon Allen. The Ladies took an early lead and were never really troubled when winning 2&1.
Mark Williamson & Jon Batten face Nelly Ong & Lilia Copeman in matcht three. In a battle of some high quality golf, and taking shots from Nelly (who has an impressive +6 handicap), Mark and Jon were 10 under through 10 holes and only all square. And that’s how the game ended. Jon and Mark praised the standard of the youngsters’ golf.
Adrian Myhill & Paul Sennett took on Sue Henderson & Tiff Mills in the final match. Again, the Ladies came out strong taking an early lead, Adrian and Paul did manage to level the match thru 10 holes, but eventually the opposition were just too good on the day and went on to win comfortably by a margin of 3&1.
The overall match score was a win for the Ladies 2.5-1.5. The team captains Jo Herd and Gary Brayshaw thanked Yarmouth and Caister GC for once again hosting this annual match, and are looking forward to playing again next year.
Unfortunately, next year’s team will not include Adrian Myhill, who has announced that he is stepping back from county senior golf. Seniors’ captain Gary Brayshaw said: “I personally would like to thank Adrian for his contribution to Norfolk County Golf, not only as a player but also having served two years as captain of our team. You will be missed Adrian. Thank you for your time, effort, and enthusiasm.” A sentiment echoed by the whole squad.
