Junior Golf in norfolk

Norfolk has a thriving junior girls’ golf section of over fifty girls in the age range 8-18 years’ old. A number of our girls have gone on to gain regional and national recognition, along with scholarships abroad.

Norfolk Development Pathway leads girls from beginners to improvers then through to County squads and further on to National training and representation.

Girls in Norfolk can get started through Girls Golf Rocks which encourages them to learn and play golf in a fun and friendly way through free taster sessions and group beginners’ courses, or they may get started with lessons at their Local Golf Club.

Regular coaching is vital for young golfers to develop and improve their game. As part of the development of junior golf in Norfolk four winter training sessions run from January-April which are open to all girls who would like to improve and include: golf games and skills’ challenges which provide friendly, competitive interaction. All sessions are run by PGA professional coaches, find all the details of the 2021 schedule.

Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Association run events and competitions which are open to girls of all abilities and ages. The Spring Meeting, Autumn Meeting and Santa Special may be entered by girls with and without handicaps which is a great way to play with other girls at the same level and to make new friends.

The Fowler Trophy and the Young Cup are pairs’ competitions for a junior and a lady from the same club to enter.

For our more experienced golfers we also have these and the Norfolk Junior Championship plus juniors may enter any of our Ladies’ Competitions.

Girls may then be selected to play for the County Junior team and or the County teams, both of which play in East Region match days. The girls will also have the opportunity to play friendly matches against other counties and local clubs.

For our more talented girl golfers selection is made for further performance training with Paul Ashwell, a PGA Master Professional, which includes: golfing and mental skills, nutrition and fitness.

These girls will also be proposed for a limited number of places at England Golf East Regional training to further develop of their skills.

By this stage our girls will be playing off single figure handicaps, will be eligible to enter East Region and England Golf competitions. They may also go on to be selected to play for England teams.

In Norfolk we want everyone to have a safe, fun experience in golf which is why we are working towards SafeGolf accreditation. This is a safeguarding process to protect the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.
