15 year old Chloe Tarbard from Royal Norwich takes the Norfolk Ladies' title

The Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Championship was this year held at Gt Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club on Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May. The final on Sunday 14th was contested by Chloe Tarbard from Royal Norwich and Gemma DeFeu from Thetford.

A fantastic match, with birdies galore, the first 9-holes were neck and neck, the pair being all square at the turn. Tarbard then pulled away with three consecutive pars before halving the 13th and winning the par 3 14th before going on to win the match and championship on the 15th hole.

“I am so proud to have won this tournament, and thanks to my coaches PGA professionals Joe Lambert and Chase Davies and to my dad who keeps me calm and focused as my caddie”.

Next week Chloe will be playing in the annual Under 16 challenge match at Hunstanton Golf Club as one of eight of the brightest young talents on the England Golf player pathway who take on their Spanish counterparts.

The Championship, sponsored by Swannington Windows, was played over 3 days with a field of 28 and handicaps ranging from +2.6 – 14. The first day was 36 hole stroke play and with extreme weather conditions (high winds and rain) it was a true test of golf. The winner of both the Lady Betty Trafford Cup (36-hole scratch) and Hannaford Cup (36-hole handicap) was Tiffany Mills from Ryston Park with a gross and nett 158.

The best 16 gross scores went through to the match-play knockout on the Saturday. Unfortunately last year’s runner-up, and past Champion, Tracey Williamson was unable to go through to the knock out stages as she had to travel to play in the English Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Stoneham Golf Club. Thankfully the weather did improve for the knock out matches and by the Sunday blue skies eventually appeared for the semi-finals and final.

Semi-finals: Tarbard beat Mills 2&1, DeFeu beat Ong 20th-hole

Final: Tarbard beat DeFeu 4&3

Carol Delf, President of the Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Association, brought the championship to a close by thanking her home club Great Yarmouth & Caister for being an excellent host with special thanks to the greenkeepers for the fantastic condition of the course and for keeping it playable during the extreme weather conditions on the Friday.
