Fifth Place for Great Yarmouth & Caister Ladies’ pair, Libby Sturrock & Rita Bleasdale, in the Grand Final of the PING women’s Fourball Better Ball at Gainsborough Golf Club.

Libby and Rita achieved a fabulous 49 points to earn their place in the top fifty pairs who go forward to the Grand Final.

Playing off 90% of their handicaps – Libby had 30 shots, Rita 15 – the pair was three under par after the first three holes, leading to a front nine score of 20 points, a number they matched on the back nine. The pair clocked up their 40 points during a rain-soaked round at the challenging 5,864 yard Karsten Lakes Course, leaving them just two shots behind the winners. They were tied with another pair on 40 but on countback came in fifth.

“It was a fantastic event, unlike anything I have experienced in golf,” said Libby, a relatively new golfer. Playing partner, Rita, agreed: “We had a few poor holes but somehow or other managed to hold it together. When I was in a muddle, Libby came through.”

The tournament is run by England Golf and attracted 16,610 women from 885 clubs. Full details and hole by hole results are on the England Golf website.
