We hope you are all keeping safe during these unusual times
Last week we had our first Executive Zoom meeting and we would like to give you an update on the golfing situation both in our county and further afield. Hope you are enjoying being back out on the course. Please remember to #PlaySafeStaySafe

Margaret Watson
Sadly, Margaret, who was Secretary of the Association from 2013-2017, passed away on the 14th May. During her term of office she played a pivotal part in the administration of the Executive Committee and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time which is made more difficult under the current circumstances.

East Region
Following an East Region Zoom meeting (attended by Alex Mournian and Sue Heeles) it was unanimously agreed all 2020 East Region competitions would be cancelled.

This unfortunately includes County Match Week (June) and the 2nd team and Junior Match Days in August.

The 2021 rota/venues will apply for next year. Norfolk will therefore be hosting the East Region Foursomes and Seniors’ championships.

National County Finals
On a positive note England Golf are still planning to hold the Women’s National County Finals at Spalding Golf Club from 15th-18th September (Practice Day 14th). All counties were invited to enter without the requirement for a qualifying competition. Norfolk have submitted an entry on the strict understanding we will only compete if it is safe to travel, stay and play. Of the 35 counties invited 26 have agreed to take part on the same basis as Norfolk.

Teams will consist of 4 players and to cope with the number of teams participating the first 3 days will be 18-hole stroke play (singles – day 1, foursomes - day 2 & greensomes – day 3). The top four counties will go through to the final day to play singles match play in the semi-finals and final (plus 3rd & 4th place play-off), the winners being crowned National County Champions for 2020.

Championships & Events
The majority of venues for 2021 have already been booked with clubs. These will be the venues used next year. Venues for 2020 will NOT therefore be carried forward with the exception of the County AM AM which will be held at Royal Norwich on Thursday 29th April.

Norfolk Executive Committee
The NLCGA Executive has unanimously agreed to ‘bump’ forward the year. Your committee will therefore remain in their 2020 positions for 2021.

Assistant Secretary Post
There is an opportunity for an Assistant Secretary to join at the end of this year to sit on committee with a view to taking on the role of Honorary Secretary with effect from November 2021.
