The NLCGA County Girls’ Championship was recently held at Bawburgh Golf Club in which 13 girls played in the Championship and a further three girls played for the McHarg Birdie Trophy. The event was once again kindly sponsored by Dereham Golf Club.   This year’s Championship winner was scratch golfer Amy Taylor playing on her home turf shooting a gross 75, closely followed by runner-up Jasmine Campbell also on 75 but losing out on countback. The handicap salver was also won by a Bawburgh junior. Emma Bambridge scored a fantastic net 67 (90-23-67) to clinch the top prize from the Neild sisters. Eve Neild was second with a net 71 (87-16-71) closely followed by older sister Hope on net 75 (84-9-75).

In the Birdie Trophy Nellie Ong from Eaton played a fine game winning with 38 points off a 31 handicap closely followed by Emily Reynolds from Fakenham on 34 points. Rebecca Chesterman from Hunstanton came third.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Dereham’s Immy Leeder and Eaton’s Nellie Ong. The competition was also played as part of the Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship. Amy Taylor took the best gross prize and Chloe Gibbs from Royal Norwich the U14 prize.

County junior organiser Carol Delf said it had been another fantastic day for Norfolk girls’ golf and wished all players well for the remainder of the season. She reminded the girls that the next county event was the Fowler Trophy which this year will be held at Thetford Golf Club on 2nd August.
