Jake Bolton, Angus Flanagan, Harry Goddard and Charlie Thornton have been selected to represent England in the boys' event at the Dutch Junior Open at Toxadria Golf Club on 17-20 July.

Amelia Williamson and Nicola Slater have been named as the English representatives in the concurrent girls’ event played over the same course.

The Players:

Jake Bolton, 20, (Ogbourne Downs) is a member of the England “A” squad and won the Hampshire Salver earlier this year at. He was a member of the English team at this year’s Costa Bellena Octagonal match in Spain.

Angus Flanagan, 20, (St George’s Hill) has just completed his sophomore year at the University of Minnesota where he registered a series of good results including a share of first place in the Big Ten Championships in Pennsylvania. Since returning home for the summer he has finished seventh at the St Andrews Links Trophy and also reached the third round of The Amateur Championship. He won the English Under-18 open stroke play championship for the Carris Trophy back in 2016.

Harry Goddard, 19, (Hanbury Manor) is another member of the “A” squad and also represented England at Costa Belena. He was a member of the winning English team at last year’s Boys’ Home Internationals. This year he was runner-up at the Lytham Trophy and eighth at the Italian Men’s Amateur.

Charlie Thornton, 20, (Fulford) won the North of England Open Amateur Championship in 2018 and to date this season has finished tenth at the Portuguese International Amateur, 16th at the Italian International Amateur and tied-seventh at the Brabazon Trophy. He won the 2016 England Golf Boys’ Order of Merit before transitioning into the men’s game.

Nicola Slater, 19 (Lindrick) was tied second among the stroke play qualifiers at the English Women’s Amateur Championship at Saunton. She claimed top-15 finishes in the Scottish Women’s Open, The Welsh Ladies Stroke Play and the Irish Ladies Stroke Play and made it into the match play draw at The Women’s Amateur Championship.

Amelia Williamson, 19 (Royal Cromer) heads to The Netherlands fresh from an impressive victory at the Chiberta Grand Prix in France. She also reached the last 32 of the recent Women’s Amateur Championship and was 17th at the St Rule Trophy after returning home from her first year at college in the States.

About the Dutch Junior Open

The Dutch Junior Open is a 72-hole stroke play event open to boys and girls aged 21 and under. There is a cut after 54 holes with the leading 50% of boys and girls, and those tied in that position, progressing to the final round.

Previous winners of the boys’ event include England’s Tom Sloman (2017), Daniel Brown (2015) and Zane Scotland (2002). Lauren Taylor won the girls’ title three years in a row (2011-13).
