The final of the Carrick Cup certainly started with a 'splash' yesterday at Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, when valiant competitors and spectators had to battle against the tide and the flood water to get to the course!! It didn't seem as though there would be any greater adventure , but the girls from Royal Norwich and Eaton topped it and gave us an even more exciting afternoon's play. Sam Martin and Rebecca Heeles from Royal Norwich took on Karen Young and Eppie Zandvoort from Eaton to see who could beat the elements and emerge as our Carrick Champions for 2014. The coastal course, always a challenge even on a calm day, showed its wild side with a formidable wind from the sea to contend with, but despite the challenge the girls played valiantly, with Karen and Eppie coming back at  Sam and Rebecca who made a storming start. The match eventually came to a conclusion on the 17th hole, with Sam and Rebecca as the 2014 winners. Congratulations to all four players for an excellent spectacle of Norfolk ladies golf!! In her presentation speech County President Ros Wilkinson paid tribute to Peggy Carrick who recently passed away - Peggy was a stalwart of Norfolk ladies golf and who initiated the Carrick Cup competition back in 1979.
